Apologies: Sue Tibbles (ST) Pam Hopcraft (PH), Paul Appleby (PA), Rachel Foster (RF)

1.     Update from last meeting:

  • HS: Sernt June OVNews, took photo of NVW library display – to write up on website; free food stall for NVW went well, with lots of interest; NVW picnic – poor attendance, just one other family showed.
  • DH: Festival takings – North Leigh £14, Levellers Day £44, Headington £77. Bank balance now stands at about £750. DH also advised that North Leigh was small village fair, but well organised. He expects it to be much bigger next year. Despite a predominantly farming area, interest in OxVeg was high. Not much food/plants were sold due to other stalls offering similar, but lots of information taken. HS commented that the Headington stall looked excellent. Thanks to Glenda (DH’s daughter) for helping. Possibility of cookery demo at Elder Stubbs stall. DH to arrange.
  • PF: Written review with photo of NVW street stall and sent to Vegetarian Society; written review of “End-of-the-Lineâ€; written article about swine flu. HS to put these onto website.
  • PH: Elder Stubbs booked. Date to be confirmed to HS for inclusion on events list. Will not do stall at Florence Park since historically there has been lack of space on stalls.

2.     Sponsored Head Shave - Ellie Hale, in support of Against Breast Cancer

Agreed that whilst this is a charity that many members may wish to support (since it doesn’t involve animal testing), that it is not directly veggie related, so OxVeg will not be contributing funds.

PF mentioned that Ellie may be interested in setting up a vegetarian society within Oxford University, and has advised her that we would happily support / liaise with her. DH has suggested that Glenda is trying to persuade Oxford Brookes to be more veggie-friendly. Will revisit next meeting to arrange for fresher’s fayres.

3.     Expenses

It was agreed that OxVeg pay for the “End of the Line†viewing for PF.

HS raised issue of transport costs (e.g. bus fare to committee meetings), however it was felt there were insufficient people present to make decision. To revisit at later meeting, possibly AGM.

4.     Next Events

Summer Garden Party

Provisional schedule:

2pm set-up

2.30pm Guests arrive. PF to begin juicing, & selling raffle tickets

3pm J Masson speech + Q&A

4pm Food/party

5pm raffle drawn

DH has purchased raffle tickets, PF has placed advert on DailyInfo. HS advises approx 30 people have booked, therefore will not put sign on street as sufficient attendees.

Raffle prizes – Book of baking (PF), Postcard set (PF), Chocolates or similar (PF to purchase), item from Catherine of VERO.

PA has agreed to man an OxVeg stall, which Denise Watt will bring to venue.

It was agreed that PF could sell his postcards in return for a donation towards event costs (e.g. 10%).

PF will liaise with VERO to ensure there is a pot for donations.

Animal Aid stall – 1st August

RF will be doing a free food stall on 1st August to collect funds for Animal Aid. Volunteers will be appreciated. PF may be able to attend. HS will mention in OVNews.

Oxford Vegan Fayre – 15th August, Wesleyan Memorial Hall

RF is continuing to organise this, and has agreed to run as joint venture between OxVeg and Animal Aid. Animal Aid are donation £160, and it was suggested we match this funding, with RF promising to return any unsued funds. HS raised issue that we have plenty of funds which we are currently not spending, DH suggested this was a large amount. It was agreed to email all committee members, asking for their opinion by Friday 26th June before making final decision.

OxVeg are running a stall, but need someone to man. HS to email to other committee members to request help for stall, as well as any other general assistance. PF will be there doing cookery demos, talks and helping with VERO stall.

5.     AOB

PA will be taking Aug & Sept meetings, and distributing Aug & Sept OVNews.

6.     Next Meeting

HS to book room for 6th August.
