Public loved Valentine's Day food stall
Date: 2009-02-14
On a beautifully sunny, but cold Valentine's day, volunteers from OxVeg set up a stall on Cornmarket Street, Oxford to promote the theme "love animals, don't eat them".
Saturday shoppers were invited to come and try the free food on offer. Committee members Rachel and Heather had been busy baking peanut butter cookies, sausage rolls (made with TVP sausages), and chocolate biscuit cake. We also had samples of Scheese, rice crackers, tofu pate and chocolate from Nibchoc, among others. Thank you to all the companies for their kind donations.
We gave away lots of information, including the Vegan Society's "Why Vegan?" and "Plant Based Nutrition and Health" booklets, and recipe leaflets from
Feedback from all who stopped by was very positive. Lots of visitors to the stall were either veggie or vegan, and many brought non-veggie friends to try the food on offer. We had some agree to try going vegetarian or vegan for Lent (see our events page for how we will be promoting and supporting a veggie 'pledge' over Lent Easter). It was great to meet so many people who shared our compassion for animals (just one of many reasons to go veggie). We hope to meet you all again soon in upcoming events.
